Barista/Front Of House Position
Position Summary:
Provide exceptional service by delivering a great experience to our customers in terms of service, atmosphere, and quality. This includes friendly and informative interactions and a strong sense of attentiveness to provide a memorable cafe and retail experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide a friendly atmosphere by greeting each customer as they walk in the door.
- Customer service must be upbeat, authentic and attentive. The shop is a destination for chocolate loving tourists and locals and we expect impeccable service to be given.
- Prepare coffee and tea with acute attention to our standards of quality.
- Maintain product knowledge regarding all coffee, tea and food items and stay up to date on menu changes and accurately communicate product information to customers. Respond to questions, orders and allergy concerns.
- Properly handle and maintain all coffee brewing equipment.
- Operate POS system accurately and efficiently for customer transactions, process credit card transactions and make change.
- Work at an efficient pace to get tasks done: ring up customers, prepare their drinks and/or box up their items efficiently and with care. We expect that our front of house person always looks for tasks that improve the cafe environment and the customer experience. These may include: cleaning, re-stocking, wrapping chocolate, or other ongoing packaging tasks.
- Educate customers as they ask questions to ensure that they understand the concept of bean-to-bar chocolate and what distinguishes us from other chocolate companies. You will become familiar with the process of chocolate making at Chequessett Chocolate, from the work we do sourcing cacao to making a finished bar of chocolate.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the café by ensuring that tables, floors, windows, shelves and doors are clean and meet company expectations.
- Any additional duties assigned to you by the MOD or other supervisor.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
Qualifications:
- Love espresso and coffee in general so that you know what you are serving tastes delicious. If you have third wave experience or extensive food experience, starting pay is higher.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work in a fast paced environment with a positive attitude. We are seeking someone with an attention to detail, patience, flexibility, ability to work on your feet all day, friendly personality, warm smile and a sense of humor!
- Great at multi-tasking and prioritization. Ability to make basic guest service and business decisions. Ability to continue to learn and grow by setting personal goals. Flexible and able to work in other work areas as needed.
Chocolate Maker Position
Position Summary:
Chequessett Chocolate is bean-to-bar chocolate factory in Truro. We make our chocolate from the bean: we source our beans directly and then roast, crack, winnow, grind, temper, and wrap small batches of chocolate. Unlike industrial chocolate makers, we work with small batches of high-quality beans to ensure that the nuances of each bean shine through.
We require that candidates have kitchen experience as it helps with the pace and demands of this position. We don’t require any previous chocolate-making experience; we will train you. We are primarily looking for a quick learner with a great attitude. Here’s what we’re looking for additionally:

Note: This position requires that you be moving on your feet for most of the day and to occasionally lift 50-pound objects
Duties & Responsibilities:
We are looking for someone to join our production team. Our hardworking production team makes chocolate from the bean each day. An ideal new member will bring a great attitude and an eagerness to learn. The daily responsibilities of this role include:
- Perform regular, daily tasks to create chocolate from the bean
- Use specialized equipment to temper chocolate and produce our full line of chocolate bars
- Pour and cut ganache in a variety of different flavors and enrobe.
- Prepare confections like truffles, bark, brittle and other items using specialized equipment.
- Package chocolate bars to fulfill orders
- Responsible for end of shift cleaning duties.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent vocational training certificate; certification of culinary training or apprenticeship preferred but not required.
Qualifications:
Preference for minimum one year experience in chocolate or pastry. Kitchen experience, tempering skills, strong communication skills, preferred but not required. Passion for chocolate an obvious plus.
